August was a far wetter and windier month at Toko Mouth than July, with total rainfall more than tripling (132.7 mm against July’s 38.5 mm) and the strongest gust more than doubling (67.7 km/h against July’s 32.8 km/h). The bulk of the wet weather arrived late: 30 and 31 August alone brought 41.4 mm between them, roughly a third of the month’s total, following a blustery spell mid-to-late month that peaked with the 27 August gust. Temperatures still dipped below freezing early on, with a –1.0°C low on the morning of the 7th, but the second half of the month trended noticeably milder, topping out at 17.8°C on the 24th — a first real taste of the warmth to come.
